FAST Unveils New Version of FAST Data Search

Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) has unveiled FAST Data Search 3.2, the latest version of its real-time search solution that is designed for organizations seeking either departmental or enterprisewide solutions. FAST Data Search offers a comprehensive combination of real-time search technology, business search management tools, and information analysis capabilities. Offered as FAST Data Search Professional, FAST Data Search Enterprise, and FAST Data Search SST, the FAST Data Search product line expands the boundaries of traditional enterprise search with several new features.

The Live Analytics feature enables "on-the-fly" data and information analysis with a dynamic drill-down capability, where end users can tap the specific information they need based on the actual data in the result set, rather than pre-defined binning of the data. Users can refine searches within the search result set, allowing for more precise searching and higher user satisfaction.

The new Business Manager's Control Panel provides an easy-to-use interface for business managers to tune the search attributes of the data source to ensure specific user search queries return the best combination of results. This can optimize both the relevance for the end user and reflect business objectives, while freeing IT resources to concentrate on other tasks. Additional enhancements to this version of FAST Data Search include improvements to data capabilities, automatic document categorization, dynamic result clustering, and similarity based results analysis.

H.W. Wilson Adds Enhancements to WilsonWeb

H.W. Wilson has announced additional enhancements to its newly redesigned WilsonWeb reference database service that promise more versatile searching and are in response to customer requests.

The new All-Smart Search query in Advanced Search is a rules-based search that takes full advantage of Wilson's rich indexing metadata and assigns a relevancy ranking to each record depending on which field in the citation it finds the search term or phrase. A new keyword search looks for the search term only in records' bibliographic citation fields, including abstracts, and not in the full text of articles. Other changes include improvements to phrase and Boolean searching and several interface enhancements.

New Charity Screening Service Announced

Regulatory DataCorp, International LLC (RDC), ChoicePoint, and GuideStar announced that they will offer a new global due diligence service, called "CharityGuard." Corporations and institutions can screen each of their charitable gifts in one report. The new service will assist corporations and institutions in ensuring the integrity of their direct and "matching" charitable donations. CharityGuard will aggregate the technical, data, and sector expertise of the three companies to protect institutional donors against fraud, terrorist financing, diversion of funds, and corruption, and help to ensure an unprecedented level of donor confidence.

The service brings together GuideStar, a database of information on more than 850,000 U.S. charitable organizations, ChoicePoint, a provider of identification and credential verification services, and RDC's GRID database, which provides risk-relevant data available from public sources around the world.

CharityGuard will screen organizations and their chief executives and board chairpersons using domestic and international public government records, enforcement initiatives, regulatory filings, and reporting from leading news sources around the world. CharityGuard identifies potential risks and provides subscribers with a comprehensive report of risk-relevant information on potential donations.
