Thomson Delphion Adds Corporate Hierarchy Data
Thomson Delphion announced that through an extension of its partnership with CHI Research, Inc., Delphion has added European corporate hierarchy data to its existing U.S. data. The company says this creates the only resource where this important information can be leveraged across patent collections. As a result of this enhancement, the Delphion coverage of corporate hierarchy data now includes the top 1,900 patent holders representing 45,000 separate entities.
Delphion leverages CHI Research's corporate hierarchy in two of its most popular features—Corporate Tree and Snapshot. Corporate Tree helps customers find U.S. and European patents and applications by assignee name by helping end the confusion caused by mergers and acquisitions and the many different ways an assignee's name can be represented on a patent document. Snapshot summarizes key elements of patent data and quickly creates easy-to-understand bar charts. Using corporate hierarchy data further qualified as Unified Company, Parent Company, or Ultimate Company, summaries can easily be created by normalized corporate names enabling more meaningful assignee analysis.

OCLC Now Offers Catalog Services for Groups
OCLC announced that it now offers services that allow library consortia to build group online union catalogs and provide resource sharing and reference services under one locally customized interface. OCLC group catalogs are based on library holdings set in WorldCat. OCLC creates a catalog from WorldCat holdings contributed by group members so that library users can find what they need close to home. If users are unable to find what they need in their local area, they can expand their search to a larger region within the group or to the entire WorldCat database.
Gathering holdings information within a group helps facilitate item discovery and resource sharing through OCLC services that many libraries in the group are currently using. Libraries that do not use WorldCat for cataloging can batch load records into the database to make their holdings information available for a group catalog. And libraries can customize and brand their group catalog—for example, they can add logos for both the group and for a library within the group. Invention Machine Introduces Goldfire Innovator
Invention Machine Corp. (http://www.invention-machine.com) introduced its new product, Goldfire Innovator, which integrates within a single desktop platform comprehensive functions and content that aid the innovation process. The product spans idea generation and new product development, the renovation of existing products, and the improvement of production processes. Early users of the software report that Goldfire Innovator reduces innovation costs and speeds time-to-market.
Goldfire Innovator addresses the front end of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), which experts say consumes 70 to 80 percent of a product's development costs. The software provides problem-analysis tools and methodologies that guide users to solutions, and semantic knowledge retrieval for access to relevant content.
Goldfire Innovator comes integrated with both public and proprietary content, including:
- Invention Machine's proprietary database of scientific effects/phenomena—over 9,000 effects and animated examples of their use across different industries
- 2,000 "deep Web" scientific Web sites—Invention Machine has indexed these sites (inaccessible by traditional search engines) to make them accessible by Goldfire Innovator users
- Access to worldwide patent content across the following patent database (which includes patent bibliography, full text, and clipped images):
US: 1971 - current date
EPA: 1978 - current date
EPB: 1980 - current date
WIPO: 1978 - current date
JP: 1976 - current date
