New Verity Ultraseek Features Web Services Interface
Verity, Inc. announced Verity Ultraseek release 5.2, the newest version of the company's downloadable enterprise search software. The company says the new version incorporates five important new features that improve upon the product's search relevance capability and end-user experience while making it even easier to integrate into a wide range of application environments. The enhancements are:
- New Web services interface
- Portlet integration with leading applications
- Expanded document highlighting
- Easy migration path to Ultraseek from Verity&Mac226; Information Server
The new Web services interface ensures that Verity Ultraseek can easily integrate with virtually any enterprise application. With the new spidering/indexing capability, Verity Ultraseek can find and index dynamically generated Web pages. Structured and unstructured information sources can also be brought together in the index through Ultraseek's optional lightweight database connectivity. The term highlighting capability, especially useful when dealing with lengthy documents, handles content in any supported language. Verity Ultraseek supports complete grammatical and lexical analysis of multiple languages, including localized interfaces and support for Unicode character sets. Fifteen language modules are available, including Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese.

YellowBrix and FluentMedia Announce Merger
YellowBrix, a provider of targeted information products and content-customization technology, and FluentMedia, a content-licensing agency (launched in January 2002) of Tribune Media Services, announced they have merged their operations. The newly merged organization will operate as YellowBrix, Inc. and will have its headquarters in Alexandria, Va. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The merger consolidates two suppliers of business-related content for the corporate market. Following its merger with FluentMedia, YellowBrix's major shareholders are Soros Private Equity, ABN AMRO, and Tribune Media Services.
The combined companies provide clients with current news, commentary, and other information from a variety of national and international sources. These include top newspapers, wire services, and trade publications. YellowBrix customers distribute this information to their end users via e-mail, Web sites, and wireless devices. The foundation of the YellowBrix product line is a proprietary technology that uses artificial intelligence, linguistic pattern analysis, and entity identification to contextually analyze information before delivery to its clients.

ContentScan Launches CancerDome
Adding to its discipline-specific Dome database products, ContentScan, Inc. (http://www.contentscan.com) announced the launch of CancerDome, which is designed specifically to meet the information needs of professionals and students in the field of clinical and research oncology. CancerDome provides a single, easily accessible online location that brings together search tools and relevant content from multiple sources. Content coverage includes books, journal articles, grants, research and academic institution profiles, author profiles, and expert-selected Web sites.
CancerDome is available to libraries through an annual subscription site license program and to professionals through an online subscription at http://www.cancerdome.com. CancerDome is continuously updated and all information can be accessed either from a library's local collection using OpenURL linking, or from direct links to content providers.
The company also has Dome products for Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Neuroscience and Neurology. The Dome product line employs automated search and selection processes, strong content partnerships, and discipline-specific expert editorial input to provide a focused, productive search experience for both expert and beginning users. Founded in 2001, ContentScan is a privately-held company based in San Diego.
