Inxight Introduces Visual Timeline Tool
Inxight Software, Inc. (http://www.inxight.com) announced Inxight TimeWall, its new visual timeline analysis tool. The company claims that, by seeing into the past, users are better able to predict future events and illustrate important facts and trends. TimeWall is available as a component of Inxight VizServer, an integrated solution for accessing, organizing, and visualizing large datasets. The company also announced that In-Q-Tel (http://www.in-q-tel.org), a private not-for-profit venture group funded by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), is the first customer for TimeWall.
TimeWall displays data on an interactive, three-dimensional "wall" that allows analysts and other decision makers to view huge data sets on one screen, at the same time giving them the ability to focus on specific areas of interest. This ability ensures that the context of the entire data set is not lost. When the user spots a cluster of activity, a simple click moves that period of time into focus, allowing the user to see the specifics of the events—what happened in what order—and includes links to the original information source. Users can also filter views to show only the data that are of specific interest to them.
Dates reside on the horizontal axis. These can be as fine-grained or broad as the underlying data support. Categories reside on the vertical axis. These can represent entities such as locations, people, or companies. Cards on the wall represent individual events, which can be color-coded. Filters help narrow down information by either numeric ranges or text selections. Plug-ins allow TimeWall to access and present data from virtually any data source, whether structured or unstructured.

EDGAR Online to Expand Its News Service
EDGAR Online, Inc. (http://www.edgar-online.com) announced it will release a new version of its EDGAR News service to keep investors apprised of even more "event-driven disclosures." The expanded EDGAR News will distribute headlines and key disclosures extracted from filings of SEC form 8-K. This supports the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's new corporate disclosure rules for 8-K reporting that were issued in March 2004. The expanded EDGAR News service will be available in August 2004, as the new 8-K reporting requirements and deadlines take effect.
EDGAR Online corporate customers can incorporate EDGAR News into their own intranet applications. In addition, individuals can view EDGAR News through the company's EDGAR Online Pro service. Customers may also configure EDGAR News to send them alerts via e-mail when news about specified companies becomes available.
The SEC rule amendments expand the required disclosure items from fewer than 10 to more than 20. For example, one new requirement is disclosure of a termination or reduction of a business relationship with a customer that might result in loss of revenue equaling 10 percent or more of the company's consolidated revenues during the company's most recent fiscal year. In addition, the new regulations shorten filing deadlines from 5 to 4 business days.

Nstein Acquires KMtechnologies
Nstein Technologies, Inc. (http://www.nstein.com), based in Montreal, has acquired KMtechnologies, a Canadian software developer of Web-based collaboration solutions as well as document, knowledge, and customer-relations management solutions. This provides Nstein with an important complement to its Global Intelligent Information Management (GIIM) platform for large corporations and organizations. Nstein will be able to access a significant network of potential clients in the U.S. and Canada and offer its clients new collaboration and information management functions. An example of what Nstein will be able to offer is a collaborative dashboard driven by Nstein's unstructured data exploration solutions that will provide previously-inaccessible critical indicators of particular interest to senior executives.
KMtechnologies' clientele includes large corporations and organizations, such as Visa International, the Montreal Canadiens Hockey Team, Tembec, and the University of New Mexico. The company had sales of $1.3 million in 2003 and received a total of $9 million for its product research and marketing. The acquisition of KMtechnologies should have an immediate positive impact on Nstein's financial results and growth.
