FIZ Karlsruhe Enhances Conference Information Service

FIZ Karlsruhe, a producer and provider of sci-tech databases and the European service center of STN International, has enhanced its comprehensive sci-tech conference information service for intranets. Users may now choose from three options: CONFnet, a fully searchable database with conference previews reaching to the year 2010; CIS, a customized easy-navigable HTML version; or raw data for free use in the corporate intranet.

The new service CONFnet covers all subject areas of science and technology and offers easy access to the world of conferences via a database with user-friendly search functions. It is updated weekly and contains approximately 7,000 conference previews, reaching beyond the year 2010. CLOU (Conferences Look Out) is a free weekly newsletter for CIS customers and buyers of raw data that provides an alert service with new information from the CONF database.

The existing Conference Information Service, CIS, was enhanced with user-friendly options. CIS is a subject-related excerpt from CONF, compiled according to the customers' wishes and thus specifically tailored to the information requirements of the respective companies. CIS and CONFnet may either be integrated into corporate intranets or linked to the FIZ Karlsruhe server.

Wiley Launches Organic Reactions Database

Wiley InterScience, the online content service of global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc., announced the launch of Organic Reactions, a comprehensive new database devoted exclusively to important synthetic reactions. Organic Reactions will be available through Wiley InterScience at

The database includes detailed procedures that illustrate the significant modifications of the chemical reaction, and tables that include all the pertinent examples of the reaction. Each reaction is presented with information about the reaction conditions, products, and yields where available, and is fully referenced to the primary literature.

Key features include structure and substructure search, reaction search, and real-time, full-text searches as well as by CAS RN, chemical name, and sorting by publication year, yield of reaction, and other such properties. The initial database will consist of the content from the Organic Reactions series, volumes 25 to the present. New data will be added on a continuous basis.

Cross-Ref will enable linking to primary literature references regardless of the publisher's identity, and internal links to Wiley's other databases, such as Organic Syntheses (, will be added in future enhancements, so the paths between databases will be seamless.
