Elsevier EI Upgrades ChemVillage

Elsevier Engineering Information ( has announced the latest release of ChemVillage (, which involved significant upgrades to the platform's underlying technology. The FAST search engine has been implemented; functional enhancements include multiple database searching with user controlled deduplication, personalized searches, and extensive full-text linking options. Unlimited e-mail alerting offers all users the ability to receive weekly updates on record additions in their areas of interest. EI says that all upgrades enhance researcher-driven discovery with tools designed to simplify chemistry research.

Elsevier Engineering Information publishes six bibliographic databases, including Compendex, Chimica, Chemical Business NewsBase, and PaperChem, and, in addition to ChemVillage, provides the online discovery platform Engineering Village 2 (

WebFeat Introduces Improved Federated Search Product

WebFeat ( has introduced WebFeat 3, a new version of its federated search product that offers new personalization capabilities called MyWebFeat. It also introduced new SMART technology, an advanced statistical reporting capability that is fully compliant with the new COUNTER Reporting Standard. The company says that WebFeat 3 evolved as a direct result of specific input from the WebFeat Users Group and other users across the country.

MyWebFeat allows individuals to organize and display library databases in exactly the way they wish, creating subject categories to match their research needs. Users can modify the look and feel of their federated search environment by selecting presentation templates. And within MyWebFeat, they can manage the way results are returned, opting to save results of a single search or receive alerts that run at a frequency they set. Also new—and claimed to be unique in federated searching—WebFeat 3 gives users options for dynamic results display and management.

ISI ResearchSoft Upgrades Bibliographic Software

Thomson ISI ResearchSoft released EndNote 8, the latest version of its bibliographic management software. The new version adds Unicode support for any language, expanded database capabilities, new reference types and fields, and increased support for electronic sources and handheld computing devices. Users can now search, import, organize, and cite references in a wide variety of languages, thus opening the product to a worldwide audience.

EndNote 8 implements support for the Unicode standard, providing users with a solution for processing and displaying multilingual text. Unicode covers all principal languages of the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Rim. EndNote 8 provides new reference types, including Electronic Book, Electronic Journal, and Online Database, as well as new reference fields, such as Link to PDF, Electronic Resource Number, and Last Modified Date.

EndNote 8 is designed for Windows 2000 and XP. The list price of EndNote 8 is $329.95. Students in North America can purchase EndNote 8 for $109.95 with a valid student ID EndNote 8 for Mac OS X will ship fall 2004.
