Dialog Enhances News Coverage

Dialog said that it has added in-depth news covering Europe and hard-to-monitor countries to its Dialog NewsRoom service. Content includes: five newswires from ANSA, a leading Italian news agency; articles from EIU ViewsWire; reports from EUobserver; and news reports culled from local media (in hard-to-monitor countries such as China, Cuba, Iraq, etc.) that are translated into English and made available through World News Connection.

World News Connection is available as a stand-alone service for subscription or as a component of other Dialog services, including Dialog NewsRoom. Content is added to World News Connection every government business day and generally is available for electronic searching and retrieval within 24 to 72 hours of original publication or broadcast.

Dialog NewsRoom is an online database that aggregates news reports from around the world, with editorial materials continuously added from more than 8,000 global sources including newspapers, newswires, specialty newsletters, trade media, and scholarly journals. The sources are drawn from nearly 80 countries in English and 13 other languages.

LexisNexis Enhances Total Search

LexisNexis announced an enhanced release of LexisNexis Total Search, the company's Web
browser-based application that allows legal professionals to search the service and a law firm's internal work product simultaneously.

The features of LexisNexis Total Search V.2 have been enhanced in response to customers' needs, and the application has been made more scalable for large installations. Enhanced features include:

  • The ability to pull documents from multiple document management system sources as well as flat-file systems, such as a shared drive.
  • The support of Hummingbird DM5 as a document management source with the ability to retrieve documents directly from the network shared drive.
  • The ability to search internal firm documents within specific areas of law using the "Search Advisor" taxonomy on

Questel•Orbit Releases PatentExaminer

Questel•Orbit, a provider of intellectual property information services, announced the release of PatentExaminer, a patent portfolio management system that speeds patent analysis and enhances the collaboration among search experts, engineers, and patent attorneys. PatentExaminer ( displays the full-text patents and original facsimile patents side-by-side. It includes a user-defined text mapping and clustering feature incorporating different colored highlighting to quickly find text and concept clusters. Ranking and annotation features are included to assist in the examination and collaboration process.

The company says it is an effective distribution tool, allowing the expert to feed data from Questel•Orbit or through SDI alerts into PatentExaminer, then allowing customers to read and analyze the results. PatentExaminer lets customers create and name an unlimited number of workfiles as well as copy, move, and delete results from one workfile to another. Records can be filtered and sorted based on a number of criteria to assist users with portfolio management. Reader access to directories and workfiles is set by the administrator. An unlimited number of records and workfiles can be archived for long-term projects and analyses.
