ProQuest Adds Author Profiles
ProQuest Information and Learning (http://www.il.proquest.com) has licensed information from the Scholar Universe collection of Authority Profiles for the ABI/INFORM business database suite. Authority Profiles will link the user to hard-to-find vital information about the author. Scholar Universe (http://www.scholaruniverse.com), a business unit of ContentScan, Inc., is a provider of community profile content covering universities and their faculties.
The Scholar Universe service contains a broad range of author, researcher, and faculty profile information. ProQuest has licensed a customized subset of Scholar Universe's profiles that complements ABI/INFORM's author community. With the new agreement, Scholar Universe will provide customized Authority Profile content, document linking, and community search. ProQuest will provide citation information for Scholar Universe to integrate with the Authority Profiles.
The program will launch with approximately 40,000 author profiles and 3,000 institutional profiles. Author profiles typically contain name, affiliation, most current contact information, personal Web page, research interests, and publication list (may include dissertations). Institution profiles include universities and their schools of business and departments, such as economics, political science, law, and public affairs. Institutional profiles generally include name, address, Web page, and e-mail address.

Endeca Launches New Version of Enterprise Search Platform
Endeca, a privately held company headquartered in Cambridge, Mass. (http://www.endeca.com), announced the availability of Endeca InFront 4.5, a new version of the company's enterprise search and navigation platform. The company said the new features are designed to improve relevancy, customize the discovery process, and further simplify administration and management. New profile-based dynamic merchandizing lets retailers automatically promote specific products and offers that match the unique characteristics and preferences of each shopper. The product also adds new linguistic capabilities for most popular foreign languages, including French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, and Japanese.
In a recent, in-depth product review of Endeca InFront 4.5, Susan Aldrich, senior vice president of the Patricia Seybold Group, noted, "Endeca's guided navigation is the best we've seen." Aldrich added, "Endeca gives buyers great control over managing their search experiences. Endeca's tools also give developers and merchandisers great control over the buyer experience, providing the analysis, context, and testing to tune search and indexing efficiently."
West Adds State Legislative Histories
West, a business of The Thomson Corp. (http://west.thomson.com), recently added new state legislative history content to Westlaw for California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. The new materials contain legislative history content not previously covered by databases, including committee reports, House and Senate journals, bill summaries, legislative research reports, and approval and veto messages (content varies by jurisdiction).
A new tabbed Legislative History State page on westlaw.com makes it easy to access the new material through an interactive U.S. graphical map interface. Users can then search a single source or multiple sources to mine for legislative intent on statutes. "Understanding how and why the text of a law changed from the introduction of the bill through the passing of the law is critical in establishing legislative intent," said attorney David Spencer, director for statutory and regulatory product development at West.
The state legislative history content joins existing federal coverage, including U.S. Code Congressional and Administrative News, testimony, transcripts, and Arnold & Porter-compiled legislative history for specific federal acts.
