FAST Launches eCommerce Application

Fast Search & Transfer (FAST; has announced FAST ImPulse, an enterprise search, navigation, and merchandising software solution for business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce applications. FAST ImPulse is an easy-to-deploy, out-of-the-box solution based on FAST's Enterprise Search Platform (FAST ESP). The company says that by using the FAST ImPulse Dynamic Merchandising features, business managers can create promotions, deliver a superior shopping experience for buyers, and increase customer loyalty to their sites.

The search and navigation features of FAST ImPulse include advanced product search, including sophisticated linguistics analysis; flexible, multidimensional navigation that allows buyers to rapidly find what they are looking for; personalized merchandising to provide individually relevant promotions; and dynamic, location-sensitive promotions. Extensive reporting and real-time analytics give business managers and executives critical insights into what people are doing and not doing—business managers can then quickly and easily "tune" the system.

EDGAR Online and Hitachi to Provide Company Data

EDGAR Online, Inc. and Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., announced an alliance through which the companies will make financial information from U.S. and Japanese public companies available throughout the U.S. and Japan. For the first time, customers of EDGAR Online will have access to Japanese company data and customers of Hitachi will have access to U.S. company data.

Hitachi and EDGAR Online will provide fundamental company data in eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), which enables importation of fundamental data into a common platform (such as popular spreadsheet applications) for unfettered comparison and analysis. The companies say the combination of U.S. and Japanese data will increase the value of an add-in tool for Microsoft Office 2003 that EDGAR Online is currently developing.

Wolters Kluwer Launches New Pharma Services

The Wolters Kluwer Health Pharma Solutions business unit has launched Adis Online (, a new Web portal that provides access to all Adis' drug review journals and newsletters, including the ability to search more than 50,000 drug-related articles and register for updates. Abstracts are free to all; subscribers can link to the full text and non-subscribers may purchase articles on a pay-per-view basis. The new site provides links to the detailed home pages of Adis' 33 drug-related journals and publications as well as the ability to subscribe to each online.

The new Adis eTOC Alert notification service provides registered users with an electronic table of contents (eTOC) from journals and newsletters in the Adis drug library. Users can sign up to receive monthly alerts from one or all publications including Drugs, CNS Drugs, and Drug Safety. The free service is available to individuals who want to keep current on articles pertaining to drug development, including both Adis subscribers and nonsubscribers.

The Wolters Kluwer unit ( also launched Adis Reactions Pharmacovigilance Service, a user-customizable alerting service that monitors current literature and provides timely notification of case reports of adverse drug reactions. The new service is designed to help pharmaceutical companies comply with regulatory agency reporting requirements.
