Endeca to Provide Guided Navigation for IBMís OmniFind

Endeca (http://www.endeca.com) announced that IBM has selected Endeca to provide Guided Navigation as a premium component of its recently unveiled DB2 Information Integrator (DB2 II) OmniFind Edition, formerly code-named Masala. IBM's DB2 II OmniFind Edition, announced in late September 2004, provides enterprise search middleware for powering intranets, extranets, and corporate public Web sites. A patent-pending technology, Endeca's Guided Navigation leverages characteristics of data to categorize results and present valid refinement and exploration options in the form of navigational links.

Endeca specializes in a guided-navigation experience critical to e-commerce applications. Its technology seamlessly integrates DB2 II OmniFind search capability and Endeca Guided Navigation across both structured and unstructured data. Endeca is a Preferred IBM Business Partner and the Advanced Search & Guided Navigation provider for the WebSphere Commerce Group. Endeca powers shopping on IBM.com and will be used to provide customer self-service on IBM.com.

Endeca is used in a wide range of enterprise and customer applications, including knowledge management, CRM, customer and employee self-service, analytics, catalogs, directories, and portal integration.

LexisNexis to Acquire CRM Provider

LexisNexis U.S. (http://www.lexisnexis.com) announced that it will acquire Interface Software, Inc. (http://www.interfacesoftware.com), a provider of client relationship management (CRM) products to legal and professional services firms in the U.S., the U.K., and Australia. Reed Elsevier, parent company of LexisNexis, will acquire all outstanding shares of the privately held Interface Software. Current officers, the management team, and employees of Interface Software will remain at the Oak Brook (Ill.) location. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Both companies cite the many synergies of the combined entities. Nathan Fineberg, CEO and president of Interface Software, said: "By combining the relationship-intelligence capabilities of our market-leading CRM platform, InterAction, with superb content from LexisNexis, we can deliver the types of client-development solutions that firms need to drive revenues, enhance client service, and differentiate themselves from the competition."

LexisNexis provides additional client-development and practice-management technologies, including LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell and LexisNexis CourtLink.

Verity Partners with Yahoo! for Enterprise Web Search

Verity, Inc., a provider of enterprise software, has announced a partnership with Yahoo!, Inc. The first product of this partnership, Verity Enterprise Web Search, is an application available at no cost to Verity's enterprise customers that can, with a single query, simultaneously search information in internal repositories as well as all of the relevant Web content indexed by Yahoo! Search. The product allows enterprise customers to easily and affordably extend the reach of their existing Verity K2 Enterprise- and Verity Ultraseek-powered search applications to the Internet. Verity customers may download the product at http://www.verity.com/dlc.

Highlights of the product include the following:

  • Search results from internal content repositories and the Web are merged and ranked for relevance, eliminating the need to submit multiple queries to internal sources and public search engines, then manually assimilating results to put the information into perspective.
  • Search results can be examined in multiple views (by relevance, category, or content source) for more effective searching.
  • Web-based content can be dynamically classified into existing corporate taxonomies.
  • Customers can expand external content access with optional plug-ins to subscription-based information providers.
