ebrary Launches New Hosted Application Service

ebrary ( announced the availability of the ebrary OnDemand platform, a hosted application service that lets librarians and publishers distribute their own PDF content online. ebrary OnDemand is powered by the ebrary Dynamic Content Platform (DCP) and features all of its functionality, including the ebrary Reader software, which delivers documents to an end-user's desktop page-by-page, and InfoTools software, which integrates existing content databases and information on the Web. (The OnDemand service does not include the ebrary content, which provides a selection of more than 60,000 titles from more than 200 leading academic, STM, and professional publishers.)

Librarians can use OnDemand to archive, manage, and share digital content, such as theses and dissertations, reports, historical books, manuscripts, or other documents in PDF that have been digitized by the library. OnDemand enables librarians to build PDF databases that can be accessed over the Internet without having to hire additional IT staff to implement and maintain the system. For publishers, OnDemand provides a hosted software platform that is integrated with their existing Web site to efficiently market their digital content, providing "look inside the book" and "electronic samples" features. And, publishers can sell their digital content online under a variety of different business models, including subscription or perpetual access collections.Source: ebrary
