Recommind, Inc. (http://www.recommind.com), a provider of search and automated categorization systems, announced the immediate availability of MindServer Legal 4.0, an enhanced version of the company's flagship legal enterprise search platform. Built on the MindServer platform, new smart-filters now help attorneys quickly pinpoint the critical information they are looking for at the click of a button. The product is designed to give attorneys easy and intuitive tools to find the information they need within the firm, making them more productive and allowing them to better serve their clients.

MindServer Legal 4.0 provides immediate context for the results that are returned. This includes such information as what client/matter is associated with a document, who last edited a document, or to which practice area the document is related. In addition, MindServer's faceted navigation feature, which uses new smart-filters, enables users to quickly narrow results based on multiple criteria such as practice group, office, author, client, matter, jurisdiction, and more. Users can instantly filter down to a more focused set of results, allowing them to perform complex legal research in a matter of seconds.

Founded by researchers from the University of California-Berkeley, MIT, and Brown University, Recommind is headquartered in Berkeley, Calif., and has a European office in Bonn, Germany.

EOS International (http://www.eosintl.com) has released updates to EOS.Web Express and EOS.Web Enterprise, including expanded internationalization and customization setup processes, as well as enhanced collection and authority maintenance capabilities. Based on Microsoft .NET technologies, EOS.Web is designed to be a fast, intuitive, Web-based library information system for special libraries that enables librarians and knowledge services staff to work from anywhere in the world.

EOS e-Library Service clients will have their upgrade automatically installed for them by EOS Global Data Center staff. EOS.Web clients who have local EOS.Web installations can download their upgrade release directly from the EOS Web-based support site, SupportNet.

EOS International is a global library information management software and services provider with a client base of more than 3,000 special libraries. The company is based in Carlsbad, Calif.

Mamma.com, Inc. (http://www.mamma.com) has acquired Copernic Technologies, Inc. (http://www.copernic.com) for $15.9 million and the issuance of 2.38 million common shares. Copernic had approximately $5.9 million of revenue and EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) of approximately $1.8 million in its fiscal year, which ended June 30, 2005. The transaction closed Dec. 22, 2005. Copernic chairman Martin Bouchard will join the company as executive vice president and chief strategist and technology officer. Eric Bouchard, Copernic's executive vice president of products, will join the company as vice president of research and development; Albert Dang-Vu, Copernic's vice president of technology, will join the company as vice president of technology.

The metasearch engine Mamma.com calls itself "The Mother of All Search Engines." Copernic serves home and business PC users with its Copernic Desktop Search product. (Copernic had previously spun off its enterprise search business as Coveo Solutions.) The companies say they "intend to move quickly to realize the obvious synergies and benefits by integrating Mamma's and Copernic's Web based search capabilities and extending the penetration of Copernic's award-winning desk-top search technology."

Mamma.com had been working to acquire Copernic since November 2004. The process was slowed by an SEC inquiry into Mamma.com's stock-trading activities.
