Critical Mention Adds Local TV Channels
Critical Mention, Inc. (http://www.criticalmention.com), a Web-based television news search and monitoring service, announced the addition of 38 new television channels in its network of searchable television news. With the addition of seven new local broadcast markets—Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and the Florida cities Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and West Palm Beach—Critical Mention now provides 120 channels of video culled from the Top 25 U.S. Markets, national networks, and cable stations in real-time, full-motion searchable video.
Critical Mention's searchable database now consists of more than 475 television channels, where subscribers can search, read, play, and share video clips through Critical Mention's online platform, CriticalTV. The CriticalTV platform provides real-time monitoring and e-mail alerts for organizations that require up-to-the-minute news about their company, clients, and competitors. Critical Mention provides clients with the ability to search more than 3 million clips and more than 10 terabytes of indexed television information, watch a clip within seconds of airing, and securely share clips with colleagues and clients.
Critical Mention currently serves more than 450 clients, including Fortune 500 companies and market leaders in corporate communications, financial services, professional services, nonprofit, and government industries. Safari Books Gives Access to Works-in-Progress
Safari Books Online, LLC has launched the new Safari's Rough Cuts service (http://my.safaribooksonline.com/roughcuts), which gives readers online access to works-in-progress before they're published as print books. Safari Books Online is a joint venture between O'Reilly Media, Inc. and Pearson Technology Group.
Readers who buy a Rough Cuts title get immediate access to an evolving manuscript. They can read the book online or download and print a PDF version. The initial version of a Rough Cuts book will not be fully edited, subjected to final technical review, or completely formatted. Similar to the nightly build in a software project, the Rough Cuts PDF is updated every time the author and editor make changes as they progress toward the finished book. Using the Rough Cuts service's built-in notes feature, readers can send feedback, suggestions, bug fixes, and comments directly to the author and editor.
Four O'Reilly titles are available now, and up to eight additional Rough Cuts books from both O'Reilly and Pearson Technology Group will be added in the first quarter of 2006. A Rough Cuts title typically becomes available 2 to 6 months prior to a book's publication. It is updated as the author and technical reviewers progress, so users have access to new versions as they are created. Readers have three purchase options through Rough Cuts program: buy the online version at a substantial discount from the suggested retail price for the print book; buy both the Rough Cuts and, when it is released, the print book at a special package price; or place an advance order for just the finished book at a prepublication discount.

X1 Offers Unified Enterprise Search Solution
X1 Technologies, Inc. (http://www.x1.com) announced the availability of the newest release of the X1 platform, X1 Enterprise Edition 2.5, which brings unified enterprise search (UES) to the business environment for access to all relevant corporate data, from the desktop to the enterprise. This release features a number of developments including the new X1 Cluster Manager, which allows IT administrators to remotely install and manage X1 servers, as well as providing central management capabilities for deploying l arge scale systems; a new Content Connector for Interwoven that searches on data residing in Worksite 8.0; and new X1 SDKs for extending the X1 platform to existing system and business processes.
X1 Enterprise Edition 2.5 can be managed, deployed, and extended across the enterprise while retaining the scalability, performance, and security required by businesses today. The X1 Enterprise Client gives the user a single unified view of all applications and data that reside on the desktop and the corporate network. This is designed to increase productivity by allowing the end user to take action on the results within the context of the application that manages it.
X1 Enterprise Edition 2.5 starts at $15,000 per year, which includes the X1 Enterprise Server, Cluster Manager, Content Connectors, and Deployment Manager, which supports desktop, browser-based, or mobile clients. Customer support and all version upgrades are included in the subscription fee.
