Ei Adds Ei Patents to Engineering Village 2
Engineering Information (Ei; http://www.ei.org) announced the introduction of Ei Patents to the Engineering Village 2 research and discovery platform. Ei Patents consists of patent applications and grants from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and European Patent Office (EPO). Ei Patents allows researchers to analyze results from the patent databases along with results from scientific literature databases, including Compendex and Inspec.
Each patent record is a bibliographic reference containing a patent abstract, classification codes, patent citations, and standard identifying metadata. Highly structured data enables powerful searching of patent content. Cited references link between a patent record and the other patents it cites. Cited reference searching allows users to search for any patents that cite a specific patent.
Ei said that Ei Patents is unique in the way that it provides analytics and visualization of patent content at the search results page. Search results are clustered with record counts summarizing the most frequently occurring values among key data fields. These clustered fields or facets include inventor, assignee, classification codes, assignee country, and year. The visualization of the patent content using faceted search allows researchers to gain insights and intelligence from the result display. Ei said that researchers can use this analytical tool to learn of the most prolific inventor or organization patenting a technology, discover new technology opportunities, and track their competitors. The Engineering Village 2 platform uses technologies provided by Fast Search and Transfer (FAST).

Intellext Releases Latest Version of Watson Search Tool
ntellext (http://www.intellext.com) announced the release of Watson 2.3, an upgraded version that adds people and company content from Zoom Information, Inc. (ZoomInfo; http://www.zoominfo.com), a drag-and-drop feature for easy information collection, and Yahoo! Desktop Search integration. The product is designed to provide richer delivery of people and company information to Watson users. Watson is an intelligent search tool that proactively finds and delivers relevant information to users.
As part of the deal, Watson recognizes when someone is looking at information about people and companies and queries the ZoomInfo search engine for relevant results. Content from ZoomInfo is then delivered to the user in Watson's sidebar interface.
The new drag-and-drop feature simplifies the process of incorporating information that Watson finds into the user's work. Any result that Watson finds, whether a Web page, e-mail, or desktop file, can be dragged from Watson's sidebar interface into the program the user is working on, then dropped for easy information collection.
Watson 2.3 also now supports and integrates with Yahoo! Desktop Search and includes several performance and stability improvements, such as the elimination of the need to reboot after installation.
