ebrary Gets a New UI and Greater Functionality
ebrary (www.ebrary.com), a provider of econtent software and services, announced that it has shipped a new user interface (UI) with enhanced capabilities. Among other new features, ebrary’s UI offers chapter ranking of search results, QuickView for instant document viewing in a browser, and personalized bookshelves with folders for organizing and managing documents as well as single annotations.ebrary’s new UI is now available with any of ebrary’s integrated products including ebooks licensed under subscription and purchase models; ASP epublishing services for distributing digitized documents online; and ISIS, the company’s stand-alone epublishing system that runs on the customers’ servers, behind their firewalls. Christopher Warnock, CEO of ebrary, says "Based on customer feedback, and built upon a more advanced information model within ISIS, the technology that powers ebrary, the new UI provides ebrary users with new views into their information, improving navigation, discoverability, and tools to organize their personalized information." The new UI offers a choice of viewing capabilities: ebrary QuickView enables instant document viewing in a browser, and it can be used in conjunction with the ebrary Plug-in Reader or ebrary Unity Reader. Numerous search enhancements include additional metadata fields (Dewey Decimal, LC, ISBN, publication year, document language, and more), simple search on every page, focus search by subject, a search history for the current session, and searching in multiple languages simultaneously for multiple content types. It also offers improved browsing with the All Subjects feature. ebrary currently offers a growing selection of more than 170,000 ebooks and other titles from more than 300 leading publishers and aggregators.
