R.R. Donnelley Acquires LibreDigital

R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Co. (RRD), a "global provider of integrated communications" that is best known as a traditional printing company, announced it has acquired LibreDigital, which has been a pioneer of digital replicas for books and periodicals. With the acquisition, RRD solidifies its expansion into the digital arena and gains a solid company and some interesting products that extend digital content across multiple channels. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

OCLC to Offer Atlas Systems’ Free Electronic Document Delivery Software

Atlas Systems announced that OCLC will extend its suite of resource sharing services with Odyssey 2.0, the new version of Atlas' free stand-alone electronic delivery software. Odyssey complements the OCLC ILLiad Resource Sharing Management Software that was developed by Atlas Systems and is now distributed by OCLC.

Idea management systems are one way to approach innovation and product development. They provide a structured and disciplined approach for managing idea generation, capture, collaboration, assessment, implementation, and outcome monitoring. In 2010, Gartner's Emerging Tech Hype Cycle put the technology as being 2-5 years from mainstream adoption. I hadn't really paid much attention to this category until the recent announcement by Inmagic of IdeaNet, its "next-generation innovation application," powered by Inmagic Presto.

Paula Hane's New Chapter Effective June 1, Paula J. Hane is giving up her assignment as News Bureau Chief at Information Today, Inc. (ITI), where she was engaged to provide editorial direction to the ITI NewsBreaks service hosted on infotoday.com. She also wrote for Information Today and the Cyberskeptic’s Guide to Internet Research. She has been associated with the company for 16½ years and was previously the Editor of Database magazine for Online, Inc. She will continue to accept freelance editorial and writing assignments.
The responsibility for producing news commentaries and in-depth analyses for the infotoday.com website will be integrated into the workflow of the Information Today newspaper, with Barbara Brynko as Editor-in-Chief/Editorial Director. Assisting Barbara will be Brandi Scardilli as Managing Editor.
