Thomson West Acquires NETSCAN iPublishing; Gets New CEO

Thomson West (, a business within The Thomson Corp., has acquired Virginia-based NETSCAN iPublishing, Inc. (, which publishes pending legislative and regulatory information to government affairs professionals and lobbyists in corporations, associations, law firms, and government agencies. NETSCAN will operate as a business within Thomson West and will continue to provide its current awareness products and services to customers from its headquarters in Falls Church, Va. The NETSCAN management team, including president Harvey Golomb, will continue to manage the business. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

NETSCAN's collection of pending, jurisdiction-specific legislative and regulatory information and tracking services will complement the primary and analytical content and legal research technologies currently available on Westlaw. Founded in 1987, NETSCAN is a provider of these value-added alert products: RegAlert, LegAlert, PUCAlert, and HPTS.

In other news, Thomson West has a new CEO due to a reorganization within Thomson Legal & Regulatory. Mike Wilens has been promoted to president and CEO, North American Legal. Filling his former role as president and CEO of Thomson West is Peter Warwick, who was CEO of Thomson Tax and Accounting. Filling Warwick's old position is Roy M. Martin, Jr., who moves over from Dialog.
