Thomson Gale Adds Publishing Partners to Virtual Reference Library

Thomson Gale (http://www.gale.com) recently added a number of new publishing partners to Gale Virtual Reference Library, its platform for delivering electronic reference material such as e-books. With the addition of two of these partners—Ediciones Akal and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)—Thomson Gale will launch its Spanish e-book program. The content will be available in early 2007.

Established in 1973, Ediciones Akal is based in Madrid, Spain, and has published more than 3,000 titles in the fields of anthropology, arts, economics, history, music, philosophy, politics, religion, and social sciences. Eleven of its e-books will be available on Gale Virtual Reference Library.

PAHO is an international public health agency with 100 years of experience working to improve health and living standards in the countries of the Americas. PAHO has more than 700 book titles in print. PAHO's 30 e-book titles will be bundled into a set called La OPS colección sobre la salud mundial (The PAHO World Health Collection). These titles join a Scribner title, Enfermedades y Trastornos de la Salud (Human Diseases and Conditions), in providing Spanish speakers with access to health information online.

The Spanish language titles join other new English-language publishing partners, including Brill Academic Publishers (6 titles), Indiana University Press (2 titles), the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (8 titles), and Scarecrow Press (11 titles).
