Reuters Announces New Chief Executive
Reuters (http://www.reuters.com) has announced the appointment of Tom Glocer as group chief executive, effective from July 2001. He will replace Peter Job, who will retire from the company in July. Glocer is currently CEO of both Reuters Information and Reuters America, Inc. He was appointed to the Reuters Board in June 2000. According to the announcement, he will be the first American to lead Reuters in its 150-year history, and also the first non-journalist.In October 1998, Glocer assumed responsibility for managing the operations of Reuters Information in North and South America and acted as Reuters' senior company officer for the Americas. He joined Reuters in September 1993 as a senior member of the group's legal department and a year later became general counsel of Reuters America. He joined the company from the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell. Since October 1999, Reuters had been actively searching for a successor to Job and had reviewed both internal and external candidates. According to the company, Glocer's appointment reflects the considerable abilities he will bring to the role, including a thorough understanding of the ways in which Reuters both markets and evolves its technologies, as well as exceptional leadership qualities. According to the announcement, he is highly regarded within the group and is widely known in the industry. Glocer and his family, who are currently based in New York, will relocate next year to London where Reuters' headquarters is based. Source: Reuters America, Inc.
