New CQ Legislative Impact Uses XML Server from Mark Logic

Congressional Quarterly, Inc. has deployed MarkLogic Server from Mark Logic Corp. (http://www.marklogic.com) for its new CQ Legislative Impact product (http://www.cq.com/legislativeimpact), which launched on July 26 as the newest addition to its flagship CQ.com Legislative Tracking Service. By integrating XML (eXtensible Markup Language) content from more than 30 sources, including the newly added Public Laws database and the entire U.S. Code, CQ Legislative Impact lets subscribers see the specific impact of pending or passed legislation on existing laws.

With its implementation of the W3C-standard XQuery language, MarkLogic Server is designed to enable information providers such as Congressional Quarterly to integrate content from different sources, repurpose content into multiple products, deliver content through multiple channels, and mine content to find previously undiscovered information. Mark Logic Corp. said its Server can deliver millisecond response times against multiterabyte content bases.

The new CQ Legislative Impact service brings together CQ's enhanced Bill Text service with two new databases provided by Potomac Publishing, Inc.—the U.S. Code and Public Laws. CQ Legislative Impact allows users to call up a bill—from this Congress or previous sessions—and see which parts of Public Laws or the U.S. Code would be altered, or were altered, by the bill. Similarly, users can find laws they care about and see how various bills have amended in previous years—or propose to amend the law today. CQ Legislative Impact also allows users to set up customized e-mail alerts that notify them when bills are introduced that might affect the laws they monitor. Potomac Publishing is a division of DataStream Content Solutions, LLC.
