Industry Leaders Adopt Google Corporate Search Products
Google, Inc. has announced that leading aerospace, technology, broadcasting, retail, and educational institutions have adopted the Google Search Appliance to enable employees and customers to find products and information within corporate intranets and Web sites. The growing list of Google Search Appliance customers includes Boeing, Cisco Systems, PBS.org, National Semiconductor Corp., Sur La Table, the University of Florida, and others.
"The Google Search Appliance delivers high-quality search results and enables our employees to quickly find the information they need to make better decisions," said Bill Corley, manager of intranet technology at National Semiconductor. "With our old search engine, users would have done several searches to find the right document, and with Google they often find what they need on the first try. Our employees love Google because it helps them be more productive."
The Google Search Appliance is an integrated hardware/software solution that extends the power of Google.com to corporate intranets and Web servers. (See the NewsBreak at http://newsbreaks.infotoday.com/nbreader.asp?ArticleID=17244.)
"The Google Search Appliance addresses the growing demand for accurate and cost-effective search solutions," said Jonathan Rosenberg, Google's vice president of product development. "Google is helping a wide variety of corporations save time and money by enabling them to quickly deploy powerful search services behind the corporate firewall."
The Google Search Appliance comes in two versions: GB-1001 for departments and medium-sized companies and the GB-8008 for large corporations. It's offered on a try-before-you-buy basis that enables customers to evaluate the product for 4 weeks before making a final purchase decision. Google Search Appliance pricing starts at $28,000 and includes 2 years of support and software updates. More information can be found at http://www.google.com/appliance.
