GSA Sets Up Source for Authenticating Government Accounts
The GSA (U.S. General Services Administration) introduced the U.S. Digital Registry, an API-generating repository for official federal government third-party sites, social media platforms, and mobile apps. According to the GSA’s blog, the APIs can be used to develop a new set of services that does the following:
- delivers authenticated information to users across platforms, languages and topics
- supports cyber-security by deterring fake accounts that spread misinformation and steal personal data
- improves performance reporting, data analysis and accessibility of public services
The registry will ensure that government platforms can be authenticated so users know they are getting official information. Agencies are currently in the process of verifying accounts to add to the registry, which aims to reach more than 6,000 records by the end of February 2016.
